In the Republic of Belarus the forests are one of the main renewable natural resources and important national wealth. The forests and forest resources are of great importance for the sustainable socioeconomic development of the country, ensuring its economic, energy, environmental and food security. According to several key indicators characterizing the forest fund (the area of forest cover and the volume of growing stock per capita), Belarus is among the top ten forest states in Europe. The forest cover of the Republic is close to optimal and amounts to 40.1%.
